THE FOUR C’s FOR SUCCESS

“The secret of making dreams come true can be summarized in four C’s.They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy; and the greatest of these is Confidence.” ~ Walt Disney

I had the very good fortune of being present at a wonderful tennis match between two gentlemen this afternoon. The power and focus that was displayed on the court was amazing with each of them ‘in the zone’ and playing their game with poise and passion. Each stroke that was taken was fuelled with hours upon hours of practice and dedication and I was in awe of the sheer energy that was poured into each move that they made. I instantly became aware of how each player was so at ease with himself and with the other, there was a camaraderie between the pair of athletes and the utmost respect for each other and all that was present to watch the game. I knew that I was witnessing the culmination of years of dreaming, climbing, falling, sweat, practice, determination, sacrifice, exhilaration, excitement, disappointment, laughter, learning, growing and maturing… it was really seeing life in action! These guys had mastered their art, they just made it look so easy, they were in such a flow with their game and there was no thought about where to put their feet or how to hold their racquets! It was pure magic!

So let’s take a look at the four C’s that Walt Disney is talking about and how they somehow played a part in the development of the picture on the tennis court today. First of all, Curiosity… oh how I love that word and everything it represents! I believe that curiosity is such a wonderful gift in life, it is a quality that injects lots of excitement into our lives, it encourages us to seek out answers and pursue new avenues in the world! It is what propels us towards new inventions and unique possibilities to create something new! I’m sure every person that ever achieved anything had bucketloads of curiosity to fuel their desire to bring it forth into physical reality!

Then there is Confidence… yes the big C! This ten letter word carries within it the means by which any of us will ever achieve anything! You can have all the curiosity, courage and constancy in the world, but if you don’t have the confidence in yourself and your ‘game’, your dream may remain a dream forever. When you feel confident within yourself, you can literally achieve anything! You feel invincible, you have a very healthy love for yourself and what you have to offer to the world and you know, without a doubt, that you can do it! A confident person has a very distinct air about them, their energy is huge and their presence is palpable, even when it is being quietly confident. I have had the great honour of being in the company of some confident individuals and it is a very attractive quality to have. In fact, confidence is irresistible!

The third C is Courage… oh this is such a large ingredient in the recipe for making your dreams come true! You can have a heart full of dreams and desires, an imagination brimming with ideas and adventures, but if you don’t have the courage to walk fearlessly in their direction, you may indeed remain a spectator all your life and keep hidden all these wonderful treasures that lie within you! A great friend of mine once said that fear is just a flag waving and saying “hey, new experience over here, come this way!” Yes, fear can paralyze any one of us and keep us playing small in this life, but if you could develop the courage to race after your dreams, they will soon become real!

And now Constancy… yes, when one is consistent in their thoughts, words and deeds, remains steadfast and faithful to their dream and is unwavering and dedicated to their passions, a path of excellence unfolds before them and becomes a habituated way of being. When you ‘show up’ on a consistent basis for your life and what you are passionate about, it becomes like second nature for you and you begin to flow with such ease and poise, it just seems effortless! You enter into ‘the zone’ and there is nothing else only what you are doing right in the moment! This is where you access the power of the Universe and you allow this magnificent energy to flow through every cell of your being! You seem to somehow get out of the way and the miracle of life gets to come out to play! How awesome!

So, yes I guess the four C’s most definitely played their part in the lives of both tennis players … they each had to be Curious about how their dream of being a brilliant tennis player could become a reality, they both needed to feel such self Confidence to be able to step into their roles every step of the way…, each of them had to have the Courage to face any fears that they would have encountered along their journey and both had to choose to adopt Constancy as their best friend from an early age in order to bring to the court a most magnificent match of tennis today!

So, whatever you dream about, whatever you are passionate about, whatever gives you a fire in your belly… adopt the four C’s and watch as they become your reality! Life is MAGIC!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE

“No matter what happens, believe in LOVE, a force so strong, so real, so magnificent, so healing, so beautiful, so exciting that it transforms everything in its path!

Where there is the greatest LOVE, there are always miracles!” … Marie Fay

I read a wonderful story this evening about a husband and wife who were together for 70 years, and, after all that time, they died within hours of each other. It just made me stop and think about how beautiful it is that they would not have to live without one another after sharing the majority of their lives together. It is rare that you hear such a lovely story and it did make me smile.

Now when we think of love, we usually automatically jump to the kind that is associated with romance and couples and first kisses and fuzzy tummies and starry eyes and dates and marriage. How many movies and books have been written about this amazing topic!? Yes, this is definitely a beautiful kind of love and one that most of us wish to experience at least once in our lifetime. It is like a natural instinct that we feel when we reach our teenage years, a desire to feel a deep connection with another soul. I reckon the biggest topic of conversation on the planet is about romance and relationships! When we fall in love, everything seems possible, the world looks beautiful, we are bursting to share how we feel with the other person and we want to shout it from the rooftops. After a while, we settle into the relationship and the early buzz calms down. It is in the lifetime of shared experiences afterwards that the real love blossoms!

Then we have the kind of love that is shared between family and friends. We all live in a world that is based upon relations with others. The first kind is the bond that is formed between baby and parent. A newborn comes into the world full to the brim with unconditional love, it knows only to be its glorious self and it oozes love from every pore. The love that a parent feels for a child must be one of the strongest forces in the universe, even if it is not always obvious, a parent carries a child in their heart forever.  They say that if a child is in danger, a parent could do the “impossible” to keep them from harm. Then, later in years, a child begins to form friendships and strong bonds are made, sometimes to last a lifetime. The kind of love that is shared between friends is magic, friendships create the most beautiful mosaic of love and it is very special indeed.

Another kind of love is the one that we feel for our pets, this can be a magnificent experience because an animal places no conditions on us and will always greet us with love. I once read an article about how a man asked a young boy what his definition of love was and the boy said “It’s when your dog licks your face”… the man thought that this was a lovely reply, but then the boy added “even when you have left it at home alone all day!” Not a lot to be added to this, eh?

And then there is the most important kind of love in the whole world … SELF LOVE! The greatest relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself! Everything begins and ends with YOU! How you feel about yourself determines how you feel about every single person you encounter along your path. And sometimes this can be the greatest challenge for us, loving and accepting ourselves just the way we are! When you fall in love with yourself, a force is unleashed within you that transforms your life and everybody’s lives that you encounter! It is unstoppable, it is magnificent, it is amazing, it is healing, it is powerful, it is truly miraculous! Love is the greatest gift that you can give to yourself and to the world! Yes, where there is the greatest love, there are always miracles!

“To love the world unconditionally, you must unconditionally love yourself” … Marie Fay

THE GIFT OF FORGIVENESS

“FORGIVENESS IS A GIFT YOU GIVE TO YOURSELF” … SUZANNE SOMERS

As I was preparing dinner today, I accidently stood on our pet cat Millie’s tail. As she cried and ran off to find comfort away from my big feet, my daughter ran after her with me hot on her heels to try and sooth the pain by giving her some cuddles. Without any fear of being tramped upon again, Millie allowed herself to be lifted and loved, no hesitation or no judgement of ‘how could you do that to me!’… And my daughter immediately said ‘Ah Millie, you are ALWAYS so quick to forgive!’ What an amazing observation!

Now, I know that it was an accident and I didn’t mean to step on Millie’s tail. However, I kinda felt bad that it had happened. When I began to think about it, I started to look at it from two different perspectives…my own (causing the pain) and Millie’s (receiving the pain). So let’s have a look. As Millie was minding her own business, watching the world go by in our kitchen (she loves to follow you around observing everything that is going on!), she got stepped on! Using this as an example (a very basic one I know), let’s look at ourselves in our own lives. We can be travelling along through time, seeing all that is going on in our environment and having an interest in lots of things. Then, suddenly, something can happen that can trigger off some discomfort or pain and we run away to try and find some solace and relief. We start to blame the external circumstances for inflicting this pain and we can feel angry, upset or confused, wondering what did we do to deserve this! However, unlike the cat, we can hold on to these feelings for longer than a few seconds, sometimes they can last days, weeks, months or even years, causing a lot of internal turmoil and pain! We bury ourselves in the drama of this event and shut ourselves off from ever finding a peaceful solution. When my daughter so innocently said “Ah Millie, you are ALWAYS so quick to forgive” I was looking at it through the eyes of a child and everything seemed so simple. The fact was, I didn’t mean to inflict the pain, the cat wasn’t aware if it was an accident or not, and my daughter just wanted to love! And everything moved forward naturally, DRAMA WAS OVER! NEXT!

So, let’s just be aware that, sometimes, people can say or do something that happens to trigger a reaction within ourselves and they are genuinely not aware that they are doing it, it is not intentional! And we can spend hours torturing ourselves over it when IT MEANS NOTHING! The likelihood is that it has just re-activated some previous memory within ourselves! I love this quote by Shakespeare “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so”, it is such a wise observation and so very true. It is our thought about the so-called event that causes us to feel the pain, not the actual event. The same thing would not cause even a flicker of a reaction in somebody else… don’t you think that’s very interesting indeed!

So, like Millie the cat, let us move on from anything that is annoying us, forgiving (even if there is really nothing to forgive) and allowing ourselves to be free again! No matter what the circumstances, and I do understand that many people can be faced with very difficult circumstances, forgiveness really is a gift that you give to yourself. It allows you to return to a peaceful place within yourself, and this is the greatest feeling in the world! You are here for a limited time only, so please don’t spend it holding on to unforgiveness! The high price that you have to pay is really not worth it, every cell in your body is aware of how you are feeling so LET GO…

Until next time,
