Revealing the Real You

… Friedrich Nietzsche

It’s now that time of the year again when school starts back and the kids begin a new adventure of learning and exploration and fun and activities. For me, there is always a wonderful feeling of newness and anticipation at this time, a real air of excitement! Everything seems fresh, everybody appears eager to get started on their quest for knowledge, ready to embrace all the new experiences that await them over the coming year! And then there are all the new books, new copies, new stationery supplies … pencils are pared and at the ready for making their mark on the blank pages …! Oh and how I love the smell of new books, it just transports me to another place hehe!

I can’t believe how quickly the summer months have flown by, each week has been filled with much fun and activities and I have watched as my two sweethearts have blossomed! It is such a pleasure to be able to spend so much time with the children and immerse myself in moments that will never come around again. We are so quick to forget that kids only have one childhood and each summer slips into being but a memory! I see it so often after the holidays, kids seem to just grow up so much over those few weeks, they change and mature that bit more into the next chapter of their lives, it thrills me to watch them become more and more themselves! I have reflected upon this and I can see that a period of rest and rejuvenation is so very important to living a balanced life, for everyone, not just the kids! As adults, we are so quick to feel like we need to be doing something all the time in order to feel fulfilled, reaching for those goals, chasing those dreams, go go go! It can become like an addiction, making our ‘to do’ lists and impatiently waiting for those dreams to manifest! But sometimes within this ‘superpowered’ living, we forget to notice all the beauty that is around us, we don’t take the time to catch our breath and just BE. So when I look at the children after their school break and see how ‘clear’ they are after taking a step back to just chill out for a while, I can see how this period of ‘funpowered’ living fuels them to take their next leap forwards!

So let’s maybe give ourselves permission to relax and unwind and temporarily let go of the need to accomplish everything  now! It is absolutely wonderful to have dreams and goals and hopes and desires, they are the very essence of the expansion of life and what gets us up and out of bed every morning with an excitement in our bellies! However, sometimes we forget to enjoy the in-between times, hanging our happiness on the arrival of the manifested desire and wallowing for the short while in the rush of elation and joy! Your life is happening in every moment you are breathing, your dance encompasses every inch of your existence, and taking time out to prepare for the next chapter is part of that dance! It allows you to let go of the old and welcome in the new! It gives you an opportunity to look through a new lens at your life and offers you the chance to refuel and reflect on where it is you would like to go, what it is you would like to do! And sometimes, in this time of rest, things that seemed really important to you before suddenly don’t seem just as important any more and you change your focus onto other things bigger and better! When you allow yourself to settle and become calm, this is the magical place that you can SEE CLEARLY!

So after spending a summer embracing some ‘funpowered’ living, I am now ready and eager to take a LEAP FORWARDS! Are you?

Until next time,

“The secret of making dreams come true can be summarized in four C’s.They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy; and the greatest of these is Confidence.” ~ Walt Disney

I had the very good fortune of being present at a wonderful tennis match between two gentlemen this afternoon. The power and focus that was displayed on the court was amazing with each of them ‘in the zone’ and playing their game with poise and passion. Each stroke that was taken was fuelled with hours upon hours of practice and dedication and I was in awe of the sheer energy that was poured into each move that they made. I instantly became aware of how each player was so at ease with himself and with the other, there was a camaraderie between the pair of athletes and the utmost respect for each other and all that was present to watch the game. I knew that I was witnessing the culmination of years of dreaming, climbing, falling, sweat, practice, determination, sacrifice, exhilaration, excitement, disappointment, laughter, learning, growing and maturing… it was really seeing life in action! These guys had mastered their art, they just made it look so easy, they were in such a flow with their game and there was no thought about where to put their feet or how to hold their racquets! It was pure magic!

So let’s take a look at the four C’s that Walt Disney is talking about and how they somehow played a part in the development of the picture on the tennis court today. First of all, Curiosity… oh how I love that word and everything it represents! I believe that curiosity is such a wonderful gift in life, it is a quality that injects lots of excitement into our lives, it encourages us to seek out answers and pursue new avenues in the world! It is what propels us towards new inventions and unique possibilities to create something new! I’m sure every person that ever achieved anything had bucketloads of curiosity to fuel their desire to bring it forth into physical reality!

Then there is Confidence… yes the big C! This ten letter word carries within it the means by which any of us will ever achieve anything! You can have all the curiosity, courage and constancy in the world, but if you don’t have the confidence in yourself and your ‘game’, your dream may remain a dream forever. When you feel confident within yourself, you can literally achieve anything! You feel invincible, you have a very healthy love for yourself and what you have to offer to the world and you know, without a doubt, that you can do it! A confident person has a very distinct air about them, their energy is huge and their presence is palpable, even when it is being quietly confident. I have had the great honour of being in the company of some confident individuals and it is a very attractive quality to have. In fact, confidence is irresistible!

The third C is Courage… oh this is such a large ingredient in the recipe for making your dreams come true! You can have a heart full of dreams and desires, an imagination brimming with ideas and adventures, but if you don’t have the courage to walk fearlessly in their direction, you may indeed remain a spectator all your life and keep hidden all these wonderful treasures that lie within you! A great friend of mine once said that fear is just a flag waving and saying “hey, new experience over here, come this way!” Yes, fear can paralyze any one of us and keep us playing small in this life, but if you could develop the courage to race after your dreams, they will soon become real!

And now Constancy… yes, when one is consistent in their thoughts, words and deeds, remains steadfast and faithful to their dream and is unwavering and dedicated to their passions, a path of excellence unfolds before them and becomes a habituated way of being. When you ‘show up’ on a consistent basis for your life and what you are passionate about, it becomes like second nature for you and you begin to flow with such ease and poise, it just seems effortless! You enter into ‘the zone’ and there is nothing else only what you are doing right in the moment! This is where you access the power of the Universe and you allow this magnificent energy to flow through every cell of your being! You seem to somehow get out of the way and the miracle of life gets to come out to play! How awesome!

So, yes I guess the four C’s most definitely played their part in the lives of both tennis players … they each had to be Curious about how their dream of being a brilliant tennis player could become a reality, they both needed to feel such self Confidence to be able to step into their roles every step of the way…, each of them had to have the Courage to face any fears that they would have encountered along their journey and both had to choose to adopt Constancy as their best friend from an early age in order to bring to the court a most magnificent match of tennis today!

So, whatever you dream about, whatever you are passionate about, whatever gives you a fire in your belly… adopt the four C’s and watch as they become your reality! Life is MAGIC!!!

As I was preparing dinner today, I accidently stood on our pet cat Millie’s tail. As she cried and ran off to find comfort away from my big feet, my daughter ran after her with me hot on her heels to try and sooth the pain by giving her some cuddles. Without any fear of being tramped upon again, Millie allowed herself to be lifted and loved, no hesitation or no judgement of ‘how could you do that to me!’… And my daughter immediately said ‘Ah Millie, you are ALWAYS so quick to forgive!’ What an amazing observation!

Now, I know that it was an accident and I didn’t mean to step on Millie’s tail. However, I kinda felt bad that it had happened. When I began to think about it, I started to look at it from two different perspectives…my own (causing the pain) and Millie’s (receiving the pain). So let’s have a look. As Millie was minding her own business, watching the world go by in our kitchen (she loves to follow you around observing everything that is going on!), she got stepped on! Using this as an example (a very basic one I know), let’s look at ourselves in our own lives. We can be travelling along through time, seeing all that is going on in our environment and having an interest in lots of things. Then, suddenly, something can happen that can trigger off some discomfort or pain and we run away to try and find some solace and relief. We start to blame the external circumstances for inflicting this pain and we can feel angry, upset or confused, wondering what did we do to deserve this! However, unlike the cat, we can hold on to these feelings for longer than a few seconds, sometimes they can last days, weeks, months or even years, causing a lot of internal turmoil and pain! We bury ourselves in the drama of this event and shut ourselves off from ever finding a peaceful solution. When my daughter so innocently said “Ah Millie, you are ALWAYS so quick to forgive” I was looking at it through the eyes of a child and everything seemed so simple. The fact was, I didn’t mean to inflict the pain, the cat wasn’t aware if it was an accident or not, and my daughter just wanted to love! And everything moved forward naturally, DRAMA WAS OVER! NEXT!

So, let’s just be aware that, sometimes, people can say or do something that happens to trigger a reaction within ourselves and they are genuinely not aware that they are doing it, it is not intentional! And we can spend hours torturing ourselves over it when IT MEANS NOTHING! The likelihood is that it has just re-activated some previous memory within ourselves! I love this quote by Shakespeare “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so”, it is such a wise observation and so very true. It is our thought about the so-called event that causes us to feel the pain, not the actual event. The same thing would not cause even a flicker of a reaction in somebody else… don’t you think that’s very interesting indeed!

So, like Millie the cat, let us move on from anything that is annoying us, forgiving (even if there is really nothing to forgive) and allowing ourselves to be free again! No matter what the circumstances, and I do understand that many people can be faced with very difficult circumstances, forgiveness really is a gift that you give to yourself. It allows you to return to a peaceful place within yourself, and this is the greatest feeling in the world! You are here for a limited time only, so please don’t spend it holding on to unforgiveness! The high price that you have to pay is really not worth it, every cell in your body is aware of how you are feeling so LET GO…

Until next time,

“There are no failures, just experiences and your reactions to them!” … Tom Krause

There is a story about a man who, as he was passing some elephants, suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” the trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? I think every one of us can relate to this story and the feeling of having failed at something or another over the years. Over time, we can begin to think that we are not capable of doing a particular thing and we accept this as the truth and limit ourselves to a very confined world. We think to ourselves ‘ah I tried that before and it didn’t work out, what is the point in trying it again and wasting my time, I don’t want to look like a fool!’ And this is how we start to shrink and contract and settle for a life that is ‘safe’ and ‘less than exciting’. However, if we could look at all the so-called ‘failures’ in our lives as just stepping stones along our path and decide to respond in a way that is positive, saying ‘ah well, at least I tried, now I know what doesn’t work so it makes my next attempt clearer!’ Treat it like a process of elimination, gathering momentum and staying focused on what we would like to achieve, trying this way and that until we succeed!

So, don’t limit yourself to a small world, stop confining yourself to a life that is restricted, break free of your mental boundaries and expand out into this magnificent kingdom that we live in! The world is your oyster! Don’t confine yourself any longer to the belief that you can’t do something, shatter those thoughts and beliefs and spread your wings and fly! YOU can do anything you set your heart on, if you just believe it! Go on, just try it and never mind what the outcome is, just enjoy every experience you encounter in your life and embrace every bit of it! So what if it takes you 10 attempts or 100! Which will you regret more…the things you did or the things you didn’t do?! It’s all a journey so let’s make it AWESOME! You will never know how far you can go until you have the courage to do it! And if you fall, just get up again… that’s all!

So until next time,

“It costs you nothing to dream and everything not to!” … Rodney White

Anybody that ever achieved anything in history started with a VISION!

At 11.30am on May 29th 1953, Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norguay reached the top of the world, they were the first men to climb to the top of Mount Everest. For thousands of years, people had tried to reach the top, people died trying, so the general thought was that it couldn’t be done. And, since then, over a thousand people have done it! It suddenly became possible! Now I’m sure that these two men didn’t know how they were going to do it, they just knew that they would! Edmond Hillary was an ordinary Beekeeper in New Zealand, where did he ever get the idea that he could reach the top of Mount Everest when it was the belief that anybody that went up there would die. Tenzing Norguay was a Nepali  Sherpa Mountaineer.

Thomas Edison illuminated the world by having a vision of  inventing a light bulb. Apparantly, he failed 1,000 times before he succeeded and when he was asked how did it feel to have failed 1,000 times he said he didn’t fail, that it took him 1,000 steps to succeed! I’m sure Mr. Edison didn’t know how he was going to do it, he just knew that he would!

Take a look at the Wright Brothers, two bicycle mechanics that had a vision to invent air travel, look at how this has changed humanity! Can you imagine our world without it! It opened up a whole new world to all of us!

So what if these gentlemen hadn’t had their vision and an unwavering belief that they could achieve it! The were ordinary men that achieved extraordinary things. It didn’t cost them anything to have their dream, did it? And look at the outcome.

So what would YOU really like? What are YOUR dreams and visions? I would like to encourage you to create the life of your dreams and to live the life of your dreams! Think about what you would like because ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE and that has been proven in history over and over again! So come on, it will cost you absolutely nothing! What are your passions, what do you/would you love to do, what interests you, what lights you up? Get your vision going, feel it, get all your senses going as if it already exists, CLAIM IT! See it as already existing and KNOW that it is possible to reach it, all the time being grateful for what you already have. And I know, sometimes there can be a little voice in your head that will say “I’m not good enough or I’m not rich enough or I’m not confident enough or I’m not…” the list is endless! Just know that this is only a programme that is running in your subconscious mind that has been playing over and over again. The good news is that you can begin to start running a new programme from now on. You can create this new programme by reminding yourself over and over again on a daily basis of who you truly are with inspirational books, cds, dvds, personal mentors, visualisation, meditation, etc and, over time, this will become a habituated way of being and just watch as the magic unfolds!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant,

gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that

other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God

that is within us. It’s not just in some of us;

it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine,

we unconsciously give other people permission

to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear,

our presence automatically liberates others.

– Nelson Mandela, 1994 Inaugural Speech

(from Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love)

This is one of my favourite pieces of writing, I just thought I’d share it with you! So, with a smile on your face and love in your heart, allow your own light to shine! NEVER compromise who you are… you are here with unique gifts and talents and hopes and dreams and YOU AND ONLY YOU can share these with the world! There is nobody else on the planet right now, or ever, that has been like YOU!!!
